Mercy Night School

Mercy Night School

While the Liberian government is making improvements in public education for children, there are few opportunities for adults who missed out on basic education during the civil wars. To respond to this need, Schools for Justice founded the Mercy Night School in 2010.  Under the leadership of Kiazah Sherman and a dedicated teaching staff, our student body has grown from to almost 300 students in six years.  Students are enrolled in 1st through 11th grade, and attend free nightly classes in language arts, history, math, science and Biblical studies.  In 2015, we introduced school uniforms to promote academic identity, and it’s inspiring to see the uniform-clad students descend on campus each night after working their day jobs.
The New Georgia United Methodist Church elementary school allows us to use their campus in the evenings, and we complete campus improvement projects annually as a display of our appreciation.  The church board is very thankful for our efforts, and we are grateful for this community partnership.
